Speech and language development is one of the most important areas in early childhood and the good news is, it can be supported easily through everyday interactions.
The most powerful tool is simple: conversation.
Talking with your child throughout the day helps build vocabulary, understanding, and confidence.
Some easy ways to support this at home:
- Narrate what you’re doing (“We’re cutting the apple”)
- Ask open-ended questions
- Give your child time to respond
- Read together daily
It’s also important to model language rather than correct it.
For example, if your child says, “dog run”, you can respond with, “Yes, the dog is running!”
This builds language naturally without pressure.
